For my MA Show piece, I have created an installation accompanied by a projection of my video performance.
This piece includes a kneeling bench, placed in front of metaphorical monument to the abortion ban in Poland, imposed on the 22.10.2021.
The hammering of papers below the titular document's heading was inspired by the 95 theses being hammered by Martin Luther during the Reformation.
22.10.2021 is a commentary on the absence of secular government in Poland and the resulting lack of bodily autonomy. The kneeling bench is both a symbol of submission as well as subversive resistance; within its physicality is the explanation to the coded messages scribbled in red ink on the document banning abortion.
The coded messages are all taken from banners of Polish Women's Rights parades after the abortion ban was put in action.
